Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong today officially approved the vaccine AstraZeneca / Oxford, for the urgent need in disease prevention.

According to Ngo Chi Dung, general director of Vaccine Vietnam Joint Stock Company (VNVC), it is not clear when the vaccine can be distributed to Vietnam.

"There is not yet a specific price set for the vaccine," Dung said, but said the vaccine price is expected to "be very preferential" so that more people can be used. Information on vaccination implementation plans is being developed, under the direction and guidance of the Government and the Ministry of Health.

This is the first Covid-19 vaccine approved by the Ministry of Health to be circulated in Vietnam, the vaccine has two standard doses for people 18 years of age and older.

AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine was developed with a partnership at Oxford University and with the Vaccitech manufacturing company. The vaccine uses a transcriptional vector technology created from a common influenza virus strain in a weakened chimpanzee, containing the genetic material of the prickly protein on the nCoV surface. After the vaccination, a surface prickly protein is produced, which activates the immune system to attack nCoV if the body becomes infected with a virus.

According to AstraZeneca, no serious incidents related to their vaccine have been reported. Effective in preventing viruses from 62 - 90%, depending on the dose of injection. There are two schemes: Regimen 1 - injecting people receive half of the dose, then at least a month, the full dose, effective to 90%. Regimen 2 - Inject two full doses 1 month apart, effective reached 62%. The average efficiency of the two maps was 70%.

AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine prices are the cheapest of the Covid-19 vaccines developed by the US or Europe, at $ 3-4 per injection. The vaccine is stored, transported and handled under normal cold storage conditions, around 2-8 ° C for at least six months, and is easily used in today's medical conditions.

At the Government's regular meeting on January 29, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said that the Ministry of Health is continuing to negotiate with Pfizer, Moderna and some other vaccine manufacturers to have more vaccines.

As for domestic vaccines, the Ministry of Health suggested the units urgently research, clinical trials and produce them to soon have vaccines to serve people. In particular, Nanogen company's vaccine Nanocovax has completed phase 1 clinical trial and will continue phase 2 in February.

The Covivax vaccine from the Nha Trang Institute of Medical Biology and Vaccines (IVAC) began recruiting volunteers for phase one testing, which is expected to end in late February to continue its second phase in March.
