A few questions and answers about Vietnam visa

Question 1: My company is an enterprise in Vietnam, wishing to apply for foreigners to work in Vietnam. So, during the time that Vietnam applies anti-epidemic measures of Covid-19, can our company invite and sponsor foreigners to enter?

Answer: Currently, to ensure the implementation of safe measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic, the Government of Vietnam only deals with foreigners who are investors, technical experts, workers, business managers come to Vietnam to work and must ensure quarantine plans. If foreigners falling into these categories, wishing to enter Vietnam in the present time, agencies or organizations in Vietnam where they are expected to work should contact the People's Committee of provinces and cities directly to get Approval for foreigners to enter.

The Immigration Department will consider and issue visas after the People's Committee of the province or centrally-run city agrees on the entry of foreigners who fall under the above subjects at the request of the agency and organizations in Vietnam.

Question 3: I am a foreigner working in Vietnam. If I enter and use DN1 visa to work then get a work permit, do I need to exit to get a new visa under the work permit?

Answer: Under Clause 2, Article 1 of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam in 2019 (effective from July 1 / 2020), the foreigner may change the visa purpose in case of being invited or guaranteed to work by an agency or organization and has a work permit or is confirmed not to be required to obtain a work permit as prescribed of the labor law.

Question 4: I am a overseas Vietnamese using a foreign passport to enter Vietnam on a tourist visa; Now, if I wish to stay for a while to visit relatives, my parents are Vietnamese citizens, can I handle the change of visa purpose?

Answer: Under Clause 2, Article 1 of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam in 2019 (effective from July 1 / 2020), a foreigner may be considered for a change of visa purpose when having documents proving that the relationship is father, mother, wife, husband or child with the inviting or guaranteeing individual.

Therefore, he / she will be allowed to change the visa purpose from traveling to visiting relatives if sponsored by his / her parents.

Question 5: I am Japanese, exempt from 15-day visa to Vietnam. The last time I entered Vietnam on a unilateral visa exemption, do I need to wait 30 days from the time of departure to re-enter the visa-exempt category?

Answer: The Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam in 2019 (effective from July 1, 2020) has removed the Foreigners entering on a unilateral visa-free basis must be at least 30 days away from the time of previous exit to Vietnam.
